Responding to news that President Marcos Jr. said in an interview that the Philippines might be rejoining the ICC, Atty. Ray Paolo Santiago, PCICC Co-Chairperson and Spokesperson said:

“The PCICC welcomes the statement of President Marcos Jr. that the Philippine government is considering rejoining the ICC. Being a member of the ICC manifests our country’s commitment to accountability and justice for the most serious crimes of international concern.”

Being a member of the ICC manifests our country’s commitment to accountability and justice for the most serious crimes of international concern. While the government is reconsidering membership to the ICC, we urge it to cooperate with the current investigation.

Atty. Ray Paolo Santiago, PCICC Co-Chairperson and Spokesperson

“While the government is reconsidering membership to the ICC, we urge it to cooperate with the current investigation. The ICC is a complimentary mechanism. If in fact all domestic efforts have been made to ensure justice, then we should be confident that the ICC investigation will not proceed, but if it does so, then such will actually be a move towards justice. And we should learn and accept to improve our justice system should that be the case.”
