Responding to the announcement by the Office of the Prosecutor requesting the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber to continue its investigation in the Philippines, Director of Amnesty International Philippines Butch Olano said:
“We welcome the OTP’s latest announcement requesting the ICC’s Pre-Trial Chamber to resume its probe on the ‘war on drugs’. As the Prosecution recognized, the Philippine authorities are failing to deliver meaningful accountability for those responsible for violations in the “war on drugs” and Davao City, be they low level perpetrators or those who hold the highest level of responsibility.”

“As the Court continues its vital work, we call on the incoming administration to cooperate with the investigation and ensure the safety of families of victims and witnesses. We also call for the Office of the Prosecutor to expedite its investigation as quickly as possible. Six years on from the start of the “war on drugs”, families of victims are another step closer to some form of justice.”
